Hello!
I have a question about static home pages. Is it possible to somehow display a preview of my most recent blog post on a static home page (i.e., my featured photo for the post along with the first paragraph)?
Does this depend on what theme I am using, or is this not possible on a static home page?
Thanks,
Alison

Hi Alison,
Yes, it is possible to display a preview of your most recent blog post on a static homepage, but the look and layout will depend on the active theme you've selected.
If you're using the latest version of WordPress and the Block Editor, you can add the “Latest Posts” block, which you can then adjust to show only the most recent blog post. That block is covered in this video tutorial (skip to about 1:45):

But, you'll notice that the Latest Posts block only includes the title of the post, and optionally, the date. It doesn't show the featured image, or excerpt of the post.
For that, you'll need to consider installing a third-party plugin like WP Latest Posts, which provides much better control over what appears in the block. Once you've configured the WP Latest Posts block, you can add it to any page or post you like.
You might also look at the Recent Posts Widget Extended plugin. It gives you the same control over the display of your most recent post(s), but is primarily intended for use in a Widget area of your site. You can also display recent posts using a shortcode, so if you add a Shortcode block to your static homepage, you should be able to display your most recent post wherever you want it to appear.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
Thanks so much Shawn! This is very helpful.
I forgot to include my site – it’s https://wellmissourcat.com/.
