Newbie to the whole Wordpress thing! My employer has asked me to re-design their website. Do I need to install wordpress to my PC before I am able to do this?
I've gone to the webadress and added /wp_admin to the end of the address, but nothing comes up. I'd greatly appreciate any help in regards to this!

Sounds like you've come to the right place! I would recommend you begin with our free videos, which explain how to get started with WordPress:

WordPress uses themes to determine the look, layout, and typography of a website. So you'll need to understand how WordPress themes work in order to customize the website for your employer. We cover this in our 20-part WordPress 101 video series.
To access the WordPress administration area, type:
/wp-admin at the end of the website's URL. You used an underscore in your example above, which is incorrect and will not work.
