I would like to have more freedom with my website. I don't know html, but I would still like ot monetize and customize my site.

Hi Deanna,
First of all, if your site is hosted on WordPress.com, you likely have “.wordpress.com” in your domain name — unless you've paid a fee to use your own domain. If you've paid WordPress.com a fee to use your own domain, you'd likely know that.
Also, in recent versions, the WordPress dashboard for WordPress.com sites looks different than the WordPress dashboard in WordPress.org sites. If it's primarily light blue in color, and you see a link in the top left-hand corner that says, “My Sites”, that's WordPress.com.
If you see a WordPress logo in the top left-hand corner of your site that displays a drop-down containing a link to WordPress.org, well that's a WordPress.org site.
