How do I change the resolution of my homepage image? I want to darken it a bit.

It sounds like you don't actually need to change the image resolution (e.g. the detail, or dimensions of the image), but the image itself — making it darker.

WordPress doesn't include image-editing tools beyond basic cropping and rotation (covered in this video). So you'll need to edit your image first, then upload it to your WordPress site for use on your homepage.

I use Photoshop for editing images, but you can use any image editing program you prefer. Pixelmator is a great alternative for the Mac, and PicMonkey or Canva are popular online editors that require no additional software.

Depending on which image editor you choose, you'll want to consult their own tutorials for instructions on how to achieve the specific look you're trying to achieve.
