Hi Shawn, I seen you on a Youtube video on the STREAMFLOW youtube channel A few weeks ago, thats what made me take the plunge and decide to go for WP to build my website. Ive seen the 3 free vids by wp101 and the other day I contracted wp hosting from my domain supplier, I also downloaded and bought on the App Store the app you suggested in your video thats nessesary to work with wp. It was quite expensive 33€. I am not sure if it was money well spent or not as I Have a hunch that maybe this app is not nesesary and that my hosting provider also provides the function this app provides.can you please help me clarify if my puchase of 33€ for this app was nessesary, I can remember the name of the app but the symbol is a truck think its called TRANSMIT. Regards Colin
Hi Colin,
Welcome, and thanks for dropping by!
The app you're referring to is called Transmit. It enables you to upload or download files to/from your web server via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). You need an FTP program to manually install WordPress.
BUT, if you use a Managed WordPress Host as we recommend, you may not need a dedicated FTP program. Or, if your web hosting provider provides you a file upload tool within the web hosting control panel, you may not need a dedicated FTP program.
I use Transmit almost every day to upload files to my web server, as well as make edits to my theme and plugin files. But if you're not actively making changes to files on your web server, you can skip it.
Hope this helps!
