I have been having difficulty setting up MailPoet. It turns out there was a loopback error because my hosting plan doesn't support HTTP loopbacks. Tech support said I needed to upgrade to a VPS plan. Is this correct?

Hi Gwyned,
That sounds frustrating!
Some hosting providers do block HTTP loopback connections, and that causes an error in MailPoet.
But the good news is you don't have to switch to an expensive VPS hosting plan just to enable loopbacks and resolve this error.
MailPoet lists this error on this page in their knowledge base.
They state that the solution is to “activate server-side cron (Linux cron) in your MailPoet Settings > Advanced > Newsletter task scheduler (cron).”
While that may sounds confusing, here's a link to the step-by-step instructions on how to enable the server-side cron feature within MailPoet.
I hope this helps!
I actually read these instructions from MailPoet, but they intimidated me. I did learn that VPS wasn’t necessary. Phew. Now to fix the situation. Thanks for answering and providing clear instructions.
