Do you have a tutorial on how to build a business or service provider directory using WordPress?

Hi Rebecca, No, at this time we don't have a tutorial on building a business or service provider directory. But, back in my freelance days, I built a number of WordPress-powered directory sites for my clients, so it's definitely possible. Directory sites usually feature a list of individuals, companies, or providers of a service. Visitors to the site can usually search the list by location, type of service provided, or other criteria. Some directory sites also include a calendar of events, which visitors can filter to show only nearby events. And finally, some directory sites charge a fee for listing companies within their directory. As you've probably discovered by now, WordPress supports two types of content out of the box: Posts and Pages But, neither of those are particularly helpful in creating a directory site. That means you'll need to look for a 3rd-party theme or plugin that will add the functionality you need to WordPress. The underlying engine is still WordPress. But you can extend it via plugins and themes to build just about any type of site you can imagine. The most popular directory theme for WordPress is ListingPro. it includes all of the features above... plus many more. And it costs just $69. (Actually, it's on sale for just $49 right now.) For a list of all the features it supports, you can visit their landing page. They provide support to help you get up and running. But if you find that you need further customization, you can request a quote from a third-party vendor with whom they partner. ListingPro isn't the only directory theme for WordPress, but it is the most popular. Here's a list of other directory plugins for WordPress. Of course, you could also build your own solution, using other plugins to handle each of the features. For example, you can install an events calendar plugin like The Events Calendar, or Event Espresso. We even created a course on how to add an events calendar to your WordPress site using those two plugins. Then, you could install WooCommerce, plus a classifieds plugin like this one to handle creating and selling the listings. The problem with that approach is that you'll likely end up with a dozen or more individual plugins, each one created by a different company, with different support channels, and various renewal fees that can add up. That's why the best strategy may be to buy ListingPro, then if you need further customization, hire someone to perform those one-time tweaks. Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
