I just started the basics 101 and my screens do not look the same as what the tutorial shows. For example under the users-personal settings I do not have an option for the toolbar to be visible. It is very difficult to follow the tutorial when things are not in the same place... Am I doing something wrong? I am just trying to create a blog using the free wordpress.com.

Thanks,

Janet

Hi Janet,

With the last update to WordPress.com, the fols at Automattic (the creators of WordPress.com) decided to depart from the common look and feel that was previously shared in ommon with WordPress.org.

It's one of many differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, which we covered in this video: https://wp101.com/tutorial/wordpress-com-wordpress-org/

Our videos cover the downloadable, “self-hosted” version of WordPress available from WordPress.org, which is why you see differences between our videos and your WordPress.com dashboard.

You might find this tutorial more accurate for your WordPress.com site: https://learn.wordpress.com

Meanwhile, I've just issued a refund for your purchase of the WordPress 101 course on this site, since it is different than what you need. Hope this helps, and I wish you all the best as you learn how to build your WordPress.com site!
