I have just made a simple site on Bluehost. It is something I cobbled together using a YouTube video. Now, I'm taking time to read, study, and try to get up to speed about Wordpress. My reading leaves me conflicted. For the best results, am I better off downloading Wordpress.org to my desktop and using FTP to upload it to Bluehost? What I read states the Wordpress.org is more powerful than the .com version. The Bluehost people seem to be confused as to whether I have the .com or the .org version on their server. Thanks for your advice!

Hi Marvin,
This can be very confusing. But if your site is hosted on Bluehost, then you do NOT have the WordPress.com version.
WordPress.com is simply WordPress hosting by Auttomatic. It's completely different than the “flavor” of WordPress that is hosted anywhere else, has a different interface, and more restrictions.
Every other web host is using the same version of WordPress that you can also download from WordPress.org.
These days, we recommend Managed WordPress hosting, which eliminates the need to download anything. Rather, they install WordPress for you, keep it up to date automatically, provide 24/7 security monitoring, free repair if your site is ever hacked, automated nightly backups, and even a staging server so you can make changes to your site offline without affecting your live site.
Bluehost is among the many hosting companies who provide Managed WordPress hosting.
If you've signed up for their Managed WordPress hosting plan, then WordPress should already be installed. You shouldn't need to download anything.
You should be set and ready to start buiding your WordPress site!
Shawn, a really big thank you! I called Bluehost and was able to understand the plan I had and the features offered. Thanks again.
